Each author on this blog is a Christian. We each have accepted the free gift of salvation from God through our Lord Jesus Christ. What do we mean that we are Christians? What do we believe?
When God created the world, He intended it to be sinless, just as He is. In the Garden of Eden stood the only tree that was forbidden by God to eat from out of all the other trees in the garden. Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan, in the form of a serpent, and disobeyed God by choosing to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree. At this point, sin entered the world, and Adam and Eve were banned from the garden. But God had a plan to completely wipe away all of our sin, though. A one time deal.
The Bible tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) As long as there is sin in our lives, we are forever separated from God. But God loved us so much that “he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17)
Scripture also teaches us that through faith, and not works, is how we receive our salvation. There is no amount of good works that can be done to obtain salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not of works, so that no one can boast.” Jesus Christ took on all of our sins on the cross. He overcame death for us, so that we might live eternally.
This means we must each come to God the same way:
(1) as a sinner who recognizes his sinfulness,
(2) realizes no human works can result in salvation, and
(3) relies totally on Christ alone by faith alone for our salvation.
